Writing Recap: Top 20 Reads Of 2016 & Other Faves
I was very psyched to have my satire piece "If People Had Honest First Date Conversations" included in the roundup of The Establishment's "best stories of the worst year." This was one of my favorite things—if not the favorite thing—I wrote last year! You can read their full roundup here:
"The Establishment's Top 20 Reads Of 2016"
I haven't done a writing recap in a looonnnnggg time (hello, March 2016!), so here are some of my other favorite pieces I wrote in 2016:
- I FINALLY got to talk about my love of dating divorced dads* in my first article for Redbook, "The Undeniable Appeal of—and Trouble With—Dating Divorced Dads", which then got picked up by Cosmopolitan.com.
*May have some unresolved childhood issues
- Friends don't let friends ghost! In my article on Thrillist "How To Avoid Ghosting Like A Total Coward" I offered some helpful alternatives.
- In my essay "I Take Dating Rejections Way Too Personally, And I Know I'm Not The Only One" on SELF.com, you can learn my time-tested strategy for gracefully handling rejection: "sobbing uncontrollably while manically downloading meditation apps."
- I got really personal in my article for VICE's new health site Tonic "What It's Like to Have Chronic Loneliness" which also included helpful insights from experts. This article was republished on VICE Indonesia in English and Indonesian.
And in the #throwback spirit, I went back and read this New Year's blog post I wrote TEN YEARS AGO, in January 2007. Which I remember so well, and which does not feel like it was ten years ago! It's entitled "Don't Be Afraid Of Dogs That Are Far Away," which was one of my New Year's resolutions as a kid, and something that I always need to be reminded of—in 2007, and still in 2017! You can read my circa '07 advice, that still very much applies today, here:
"Don't Be Afraid Of Dogs That Are Far Away"
Happy (I can't believe it's) 2017! In the words of Rilke, "And now let us welcome the new year, full of things that have never been."
